IncSmart North Carolina (Small Business and Startups) - the south end Charlotte is getting more new development at a former industrial site. The plans include office buildings, 100 apartments, new shops and restaurants. The area knows as The RailYard includes 300,000 square feet of office space, street level retail. Two eight story buildings will include apartments facing a central public plaza. This project is the latest change for South End, which is still seeing a major influx of new development following the Lynx Blue Line light rail.
Construction on the project should start in summer 2017. The RailYard will include is an ongoing transformation from a largely industrial district to a dense, mixed-use area with high-end apartments The plan is to include breweries and office space. The 3.5-acre site is focused on the residential units and street-level commercial space meant to incubate start-up businesses.
