IncSmart Washington (Small Business and Startups) - Seattle Washington bids for NHL expansion plans. The price tag for the expansion is $650 million. This is a 30% increase of the $500 million paid by the Vegas Golden Knights franchise in 2016. The delay for the NHL choosing Seattle as an expansion team are the delays of the environmental impact statement being prepared for KeyArena. If the report is released by October and the renovations begin, the league will reward the city a team.
As the hockey business booms Seattle plans on being apart of the franchise. The city council approved plans for a $600 million renovation of KeyArena by the Oak View Group. The Memorandum of Understanding was approved by the mayor. KeyArena is a 55 year old stadium in the Seattle Center. The target date for the development of the arena is and the season for the Seattle NHL team is for the 2020-21 season. KeyArena is located in the SODO neighborhood of Seattle. SODO is part of the cities industrial district.
