MLS is expected to award two of the four expansion slots by the end of this year. Cincinnati is getting ready. They are looking at three sites for potentially building a new soccer stadium. The expansion takes money. The effort to land an MLS franchise for Cincinnati starts with $250 million in private investment and would not include a new tax increase. Hamilton County has lost near 13% of its peak 1970 population over the past 40 years. Since 2005 the unemployment rate in Cincinnati, Ohio has ranged from 4.4% in December 2014 to 11.3% in January 2010. The current unemployment rate for Cincinnati is 4.5 % in August 2015. However the FC Cincinnati won its 2017 home opener in front of a record crowd at Nippert Stadium, which took the United Soccer League record as the highest attended home opener.
