Wisconsin Lifts Ban on Mining
IncSmart Wisconsin (Small Business and Startups) -  Wisconsin lifts 20 year ban on mining.  Governor Walker signed the bill lifting the moratorium on gold and silver mining.  Ending the ban, will energize the mining industry in northern Wisconsin and grow the local economies.

The 1998 law requires sulfide mining applicants to prove a similar mine has operated for 10 years somewhere in North America.  It also requires these mining companies to prove a similar mine has been closed for 10 years in North America without causing any pollution.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has never issued a final determination that any mining company as satisfied the requirements.  Large scale operations will no longer need to obtain an environmental impact statements, or be required to establish a perpetual trust fund to cover environmental damage.
