Iowa Short on Skilled Employees

IncSmart Iowa (Small Business and Startups) - Iowa is experiencing a shortage of skilled employees. While the number of skilled laborer jobs in Iowa is booming, they are finding it hard to fill many positions. Iowa has already invested more than $40 million into work force initiatives. The goal is to attract, train, and keep Iowa residents that can impact the economic future of the state. Iowa's unemployment rate has dropped to 2.8% compared to 4.1% nationwide.

Iowa has a Skilled Worker Initiative. More than 45,000 workers have been certified for the 10,000 business that support the state program. The Earn and Learn Apprenticeship program. Employers now have a platform to train and recruit for the growth of their business. Iowa Works is a business service. They will meet with a representative from the US Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship. This stems from the Trump executive order expanding apprenticeships in America.
