IncSmart Virginia (Small Business and Startups) - Global Technical Systems (GTS), is expanding in Virginia. GTS was founded in Virginia Beach in 1997. They plan to build a $55 million, 500,000-square-foot manufacturing center in the city, which includes the creation 1,100 jobs with an average annual salary of $74,000. The new plant will build an electro-mechanical energy storage system operation. This storage system will produce and distribute100 percent of green energy.
Global Technical Systems creates advanced engineering solutions for the defense department and homeland security. The building will be located on 30 acres owned by the city of Virginia Beach, at the site of the former Owl's Creek Golf Course. Construction is to begin early in 2018, and opening in 2019. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership approved a $2 million grant from the Commonwealth's Opportunity Fund. The government also approved a $3 million performance based grant. Part of the incentives also includes a $1 million Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit.
