EPA Success Maryland
IncSmart Maryland (Small Business and Startups) - Chesapeake Bay has been given a new life.  The Environmental Protection Agency in Annapolis, has saved the Chesapeake Bay.  The bay was becoming a dead zone from pollution and over-fishing. Upgrading sewage treatment plants limiting farm runoff practice of using animal manure as a crop fertilizer has been successful.

Crab season began April 1 and continues through the fall.  With the crab population around 500 million, and the spawning-age female blue crabs levels are the highest 28 years, the suite of crab management regulations will likely stay in place.  There are also restrictions to keep crabbers from dredging up pregnant females during winter hibernation.  The crab has a short life cycle.  The average life span is two years.  The 2016 baywide crab harvest increased for three consecutive years for a total harvest of 60 million pounds.
