IncSmart Illinois (Small Business and Startups) - Illinois Electric Cars. Electric truck maker Rivian has raised $2.5 billion dollars for it's truck plant in Normal Illinois. These vehicles will be available in 2021. The new trucks and SUVs will travel over 400 miles on one electric charge. Normal is 130 miles southwest of the city of Chicago.
Part of the manufacturing these new trucks, will support Amazon delivery. Amazon is going to purchase over 100,000 truck from Rivian. Amazon is the truck companies largest ordering partner. The new plant is over 6 million square feet of production space. The manufacturing plant was bought from Mitsubishi. Rivian also has locations in Michigan and California.
