Federal Courts
DEFINITION
Federal Courts were created under Article III of the Constitution to administer justice fairly and impartially, within the jurisdiction established by the Constitution and Congress. Federal courts have jurisdiction over cases involving
the United States government,
- Constitution or federal laws
- Bankruptcy
- Controversies between states
- Controversies between the U.S. government and foreign governments
Few cases wind up in federal trial court, also called U.S. District Court. Judges encourage parties involved in a dispute to reach an agreement and avoid the expense and delay of a trial.
