What is a California Registered Agent?

A California registered agent is appointed by a Corporation or LLC to receive legal service or service of process for your company. Legal Service is notice of lawsuit. The lawsuit is given to the registered agent by fax, mail, or delivered in person by a Process Server. The registered agent then forwards the lawsuit to the company. 

Do I need an California Registered Agent?

Most companies including Corporations and LLCs, registered with the California Department of Corporations must appoint and maintain a California Registered Agent. 

How does Registered Agent work for my company?

After appointing the California Registered Agent, you must inform the California Department of Corporations by Registered Agent Change, Amendment or filing articles of Incorporation or Organization.  They will post the Registered Agent name and address on the Secretary of State website

Who can be a California Registered Agent?

An individual or a company Registered with the Secretary of State can be appointed as your California registered agent.  The name and address of the Registered Agent is public record and will be available by searching the internet.  The agent must be open for business during normal business hours Monday through Friday. 

How do I appoint a California Registered Agent?
