IncSmart South Carolina (Small Business and Startups) - Swedish automaker is expanding its facility northwest of the port in Charleston. Volvo will doubled the number of jobs at the plant to nearly 4,000. This expansion will make the Volvo investment in South Carolina to more than $1 billion. The new expansion will include a training facility and a research and development at the Berkeley County site.
The Volvo expansion will include an additional $520 million. This will add 2,000 more jobs and 300 sales office jobs. Berkeley County population is under 180,000 and the unemployment rate as of July 2017 is 3.8%. The Volo campus is on Interstate 26. Volvo is owned by Chinese automaker Geely.
