September 2017 IncSmart Newsletter

Labor Day

Labor day is the second bookshelf weekend marking the end of summer holiday means the end of summer vacations and the beginning of school. Labor day means games for the children and adult friends. Going to Union Rallies, and looking for the union label.

Peter McGuire was a disturber of the peace. On September 5, 1882 the first Labor Day parade was held in New York City. Twenty thousand workers marched in a parade up Broadway. They carried banners that read "LABOR CREATES ALL WEALTH," and "EIGHT HOURS FOR WORK, EIGHT HOURS FOR REST, EIGHT HOURS FOR RECREATION!"

Pool Party

If you are lucky enough to have a pool this is for you. If you do have a pool and want to have a party outside, beat the heat by calling for the party to begin after the sun begins to set. This is he last family day of the summer. Makesure someone is in charge of keeping an eye on the children in the pool ... if not a lifeguard, and then use a designated adult chaperone.

Kabobs

Kabobs will make your pool party festive and fun. They are easily assembled ahead of time, grilled to perfection in minutes and there's little clean up after the meal. And there is so many ingredients to choose from. Beef, chicken, turkey, ham, lamb, meatballs, bacon slices, sausage, shrimp, scallops, onions, squash, peppers, partially cooked carrots, canned potatoes, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, pineapples, apricots, peaches and apples.

Native American Day

Europeans did not discover America, Asians did. American history records the first meeting with a tribal nation was with Chief Canassatego. He is now best known for a speech he gave at the 1744 Treaty of Lancaster, where he recommended that the British colonies emulate the Iroquois by forming a confederacy. Benjamin Franklin echoed Canassatego at the Albany Congress in 1754. Colonist had little experience with democratic institutions that they adopted the Algonquin word caucus to designate new decision making procedure.

Labor Sunday

The Sunday preceding Labor Day is Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement. Churches all over America take this day to pay a national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the power and prosperity of America. A sermon for Labor Sunday begins with the question, “How much is your labor worth”?

Marco Polo

In Marco Polo you need at least 3 people. One is IT. Whoever is chosen to be IT has to shut his/her eyes (cover with hands) and then count out loud numbers from 1 to 10. After IT has counted to 10, then IT begins to search for the other players with his/her eyes remaining closed. If the person that is IT wants to he/she can call out "Marco" the other players then must say "Polo" The person who is IT searches for the people and if IT tags someone then he/she becomes the new IT.

Prayer

Now I am about to eat, O Great Spirit, Give my thanks to the beast and the birds whom you have provided for my hunger and pray deliver my sorrow that living things must sacrifice for my comfort and well being.
