Pennsylvania Soda Tax
IncSmart Pennsylvania (Small Business and Startups) - Philadelphia supermarkets and beverage distributor companies say they're readying for layoffs because of the city's new soda tax.  These companies have seen beverage sales cut by 30 to 50 percent  The city did not expect the sales would drop so abruptly.  The supermarkets expects to cut hundreds of jobs.  The city blames the markets and distributors to be engaging in fearmongering.

The new soda tax would be on top of the 8% sales tax that already applies to soda in Pennsylvania. Soda is classified as food, which is tax exempt in some states, but not in Pennsylvania. The tax amounts reach to $1.44 on a six-pack of beverages.  The tax is a regressive tax that unfairly singles out beverages.
