From repairing ship berths, the purchase of new cranes to updating and relocating warehouses, Philadelphia plans on doubling its cargo-handling. 2000 waterfront jobs, with support jobs surpassing 7,000 for truckers, rail workers, and suppliers.
The investment is well over for the $300 million for improvements. With the ships getting bigger and bigger, the Delaware River is also being deepened along 103-mile waterway to Philadelphia.
