The state of North Carolina requires North Carolina LLCs and North Carolina Corporations registered in the state to conduct business, to have North Carolina Registered Agent service. North Carolina Registered Agents can be a person or entity, named in the Articles of Incorporation or Articles of Organization, who will accept legal documents and notifications on behalf of a North Carolina company. The Registered Agent must be located in the state and have normal business hours. The agent must have a physical street address. The North Carolina Registered Agent will receive all legal and tax-related documents, service of process, and annual reports from some states. Failure to retain a registered agent can result in civil sanctions such as fines or loss of Corporation/LLC.
