New Mexico Top in Pecan Prodcution
IncSmart New Mexico (Small Business and Startups) - New Mexico toped America in pecan production by producing over 90 million pounds in 2018.  Dona Ana County produced about 73% of the New Mexico pecan crops.  Eddy County follows a distant second with 11%.  Dona Ana County is in the Southeast part of the state, just north of El Paso Texas.  Las Cruses is the county seat and the population is just over 200,000 residents.  New Mexico pecan production has almost doubled since 2008.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, Georgia lost it's number one position after Hurricane Michael destroyed much of the crop.  The storm cut the pecan production in half, from 107 million pounds to 56 million pounds.  The money is outstanding as well.   Over $100 million dollars in pecan crops, $260 million dollars in trees and  $200 million in future income.  It will take years for Georgia to recover.
