Major problems still remain. High crime, high unemployment and high foreclosure rates exacerbated by the casino closures. Now construction jobs are rising and a new university broke ground on a satellite campus.
Coming soon, by mid-summer, a 200 foot high carnival Ferris wheel with large gondolas will open at the Steel Pier. The city is building non gaming attractions and adding luxury apartments and non gaming hotels. The casinos that weathered the decline are turning profits.
