New Coal Mine in Pennsylvania
IncSmart Pennsylvania (Small Business and Startups) - Is the war on coal over?  The U.S. added 400 coal mining jobs during May and the first new mine is opening after 6 years of decline.  The Corsa Coal Corp. will supply coal used in making steel and is expected to generate up to 100 fulltime jobs.  This coal is called metallurgical coal.  Metallurgical coal a niche market that is only between 5 percent and 10 percent of coal production.  Metallurgical coal operates independently of the market for power-generating coal.  Corsa hopes to open another metallurgical coal mine next year, and a second in 2019.

Acosta mine 60 miles south of Pittsburgh.  With a steel industry boom, the price of metallurgical coal is rising. President Trump has reversed the decades-long decline in coal mining due to environmental policies.  Federal regulations aimed at curbing carbon emissions,  are the reason for the cost for job losses in the industry.  With  new clean air technology, coal may see an increase in consumption.  Acosta future was bleak.  The unemployment rate in Acosta is 7.10%, with job growth of -0.95%.
