IncSmart Kansas (Small Business and Startups) - Mars will expand it's Topeka plant to include Twixt candy bars. The expansion is at the Kanza Fire Commerce Park in southwest Topeka. The new positions to be added will pay about $40,000 per year. This will also include $37 million per year to the Topeka economy base. The new expansion should be producing Twix candy bars by the second quarter of 2018.
Mars is working with the Washburn Institute of Technology, called KansasWorks. This program ensure a strong group of eligible workers. This organization helps ensures Topeka companies have access to a educated workforce. Since 2005 the unemployment rate in Topeka, Kansas has ranged from 3.6% in April 2016 to 8.8% in January 2010. The current unemployment rate for Topeka is 4.6% in June 2016.
