IncSmart Colorado (Small Business and Startups) - A North Carolina based, KBI Biopharma, a biopharmaceutical contract company, is expanding its Boulder Colorado manufacturing facility. KBI is spending $30 million to expand its Boulder campus. The Colorado facility is manufacturing it's low dose microbial products. The expansion should be complete by the end of 2017. This growth follows the acquisition of its cell therapy manufacturing facility in the Houston.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the unemployment rate for Boulder rose 0.1 percentage points in June 2016 to 3.1%. For the same month, the metro unemployment rate was 0.6 percentage points lower than the Colorado rate. The unemployment rate in Boulder peaked in November 2010 at 7.3% and is now 4.2 percentage points lower. The number of people unemployed in Boulder peaked in November 2010 at 12,526. Today the unemployment rate in March of 2017 is 3,474.
