Illinois Reopening Steel Plant
IncSmart Illinois (Small Business and Startups) - US Steel is reopening an idled plant, bringing back a community by rehiring employees.  The steel plant has been closed since 2015, due to the unfair trade practices and the dumping of cheap steal.  The steel industry has been in a steady decline for years.  The average wage of the plant employee was $64,000.

500 employees of the 2000 that were laid off in the community of Granite City, will be notified.  The company will restart two blast furnaces.  The restart for the plant could take up to 4 months.  This is in anticipation for the demand of American steel.  Granite City and the surrounding community has suffered for a long time.  Unemployment in Granite City is 9.1%.  Granite City is close to East St. Louis, and has a population of 25,000.
