IncSmart Michigan (Small Business and Startups) - GM Michigan plant investment at Orion Township north of Detroit. The $300 million investment in the facility will create 400 new Michigan jobs. This plant is replacing an electric car manufacturing plan for China. After intense lobbying by President Trump after GM closed an Ohio plant, this is good news for labor unions in Michigan. Last year General Motors imported 1 million vehicles from Mexico where it has ramped up production facilities instead of opening plants in the US.
This plant investment will abide by the new Trump USMCA agreement. The new electric car will be built along side the Bolt. The new electronic car crossover has yet to be named. GM CEO Mary Barra, has been battling labor unions and the White House when it announced thousands of layoffs over the Christmas holiday. UAW gave Barra over $118 million in concessions, but Barra still closed plants. General Motors filed Chapter 11 reorganization in 2009. This is the 4th largest bankruptcy on record in America.
