IncSmart Georgia (Small Business and Startups) - The new Mercedes Benz Stadium is readying for its August 26 grand opening. The $1.5 billion home for the Falcons, will show the city Saturday night. Lots of new high tech features. The scoreboard, which is a halo video board, is 63,800 square feet and stands 58 feet high, and 2,000 television screens located throughout the concourses. The retractable roof is still under construction. Security is also high tech. Visitors will scan digital tickets at checkpoints a nd walk through one of 140 magnetometer checkpoints.
This new stadium took nine years to build. It will hold 71,000 seat football fans. It was built next door to the Georgia Dome, which is scheduled for demolition in November. This is a huge boost for the neighborhood. Vine City and English Avenue can rebuild and invest in the neighborhoods around the stadium. $15 million has been pledged for neighborhood improvements, called the Westside Neighborhood Prosperity Fund. 500,000 people that are going to enter this building in the first 10 days.
