IncSmart District of Columbia (Small Business and Startups) - District of Columbia Prescription Drug Pricing. Prescription drugs and global freeloading. President Trump is proposing that Medicare base what it pays for prescription drugs on what other industrialized countries pay, (such as Germany and France). European prices for the same drugs are much lower. Trump wants to attack the root problem of high drug prices. Azar will save 17 billion dollars in drug pricing over the next 5 years (3.4 billion a year).
Medicare rising drug prices. Health and Human Services Secretary, Alex Azar, has promise changes in Medicare prescriptions. The ruling could come as soon as Spring of 2019. Currently doctors and hospitals are paying the American price of the drug plus 6%. Removing the incentives that reward doctors for purchasing costlier drugs. Drug prices have increased 8% annually since 2007. Currently Medicare has no power in pricing the drugs. Medicare pays 180% of what other countries pay for the same drugs. For some drugs the prices are even greater. They can run as high as 300 to 500 % more. They will start with a drop form 1805 to 126%, still a rip off for Americans.
