IncSmart Texas (Small Business and Startups) - Japanese air conditioning company Daikin is building a 4.2 million square foot factory in Waller County, one hour north of Houston. This $500 million building is the most advanced factory for Daikin. In 2012, Daikin purchased the Houston based company Goodman Global for $3.7 billion. Goodman Global manufacturing air conditioning, heat pumps and furnaces. This new factory will replace the old Goodman Global factories.
The investment falls in line with Trump’s keeping jobs in America campaign. Houston was chosen by Daikin because of it's growth and opportunity. Daikin currently employs of 3000 Texans, but expanding to 8000. Houston housing starts were 26,000 in the first quarter, second only to Dallas. Houston also leads the nation in retention of talent from local colleges. The bragging rights include keeping 67 percent of graduates in it's workforce.
