IncSmart California (Small Business and Startups) - California is having a disastrous wild fire season. The explosive fires have ravaged the state leaving behind blackened timber and brush fields. Shasta County has been hit with mandatory evacuations and highway closures. The latest fire is over 22,000 acres or 34 square miles and still burning. The fires are responsible for killing California residents and burning over 8000 thousands of homes and destroying over 300 businesses.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the government office for firefighting, is running out of money. They have over 1200 fire personnel battling the wild fires. The state has spent over $430 million in July and August alone. They only have $11 million dollars before the state will have to dig into emergency funds or take money form other government agencies. There has also been over tens of thousands in insurance claims and over a billion dollars in monetary losses. This fire season has been brutal with high temperatures and gusts of wind up to 20 miles per hour.
