BMW Expands in South Carolina
IncSmart South Carolina (Small Business and Startups) - BMW is expanding once again in in South Carolina.  Bavarian Motor Works will invest an additional $600 million to expand its South Carolina plant.  This expansion will create 1,000 new jobs over the next four years, bring the total number of employees to the Spartanburg plant to 10,000 people.  The new investment, will be added to the $7 billion dollars already committed to South Carolina.

The German automaker has had a plant in Spartanburg for 25 years.  Spartanburg produced 411,000 vehicles last year and currently employs 9,000 people.  BMW will also spend separately $200 million over five years on workforce training.   The company disclosed the South Carolina plant as its largest worldwide, and is also the largest manufacturing plant in the world.  Spartanburg has a population of 38,000 residents.
