The extensive damage occurred during it's last launch. The Pacific Spaceport Complex formally know as the Kodiak Launch Complex, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Alaska Aerospace Corporation, and the Alaska Aerospace Corporation is a wholly owned by the state of Alaska. Alaska is expanding it's local industry to add to it's already profitable oil business. Pacific Spaceport is 250 air miles southwest of Anchorage in the Gulf of Alaska is located at Narrow Cape on Kodiak Island.
The biggest advantage for the Kodiak Island launch site is lack of wait times. Launches from Pacific Spaceport is positioned for polar launches is used for communication and weather satellites and those that take images of Earth. The only setback is for equatorial launches that make up most of the industry demand. However, the corporation's aggressive pursuit of contracts is a welcomed comeback. The Alaska budget office released $2.2 million for launch site improvements. Annual unemployment rates for Kodiak Island Borough is around 5%. The Population of Kodiak Island is about 14,000.
