Registering your yacht or boat in the State of Delaware.

For a "title" state you will need the original Title (no copies) signed by the seller
and purchaser and a notarized Bill of Sale.  For a "non-title" state you will need
the original boat registration card and a notarized bill of sale that includes both
the buyer's and seller's names.

In the event of registering a factory new boat, then you would submit the
Certificate or Origin (as a title would not have been issued yet). And remember:
Delaware is a NO SALES TAX state.
You may chose to INCORPORATE in
Delaware and have your boat registered as a business
or you may register
the boat in your own name.

Classes and Fees
Delaware recognizes five classes of boats, based on boat length. How much you pay in
registration fees depends on which class boat you register:

Class A: under 16 feet: $10
Class 1: 16 and over to under 26 feet: $20
Class 2: 26 and over to under 40 feet: $30
Class 3: 40 and over to under 65 feet: $50
Class 4: 65 feet and over: $60

You can register and renew your registration for periods of one year or three years. If
you choose to register or renew for three years, simply triple the original fee. For
example, registering or renewing the registration of a Class A boat for three years
would cost $30.

How to Register
The first time you register your boat, you can either appear in person or apply by mail
through the Division of Fish & Wildlife:

Division of Fish & Wildlife
Boat Registration
89 Kings Highway
Dover, DE 19901

You will also need to bring some documents with you when you register your boat for
the first time:

Certificate of Origin
Title assigned to you
Notarized Bill of Sale
Chain of ownership

The documents will prove your ownership through a legitimate sale.

Registrations are valid from January 1 to December 31.

How to Renew
After your first registration, you can renew online at the Delaware Web site.

In addition to renewals, you can also apply for duplicate decals, change your address,
or buy a ramp certificate online.
